Frankie Boyer is an established force on radio, social networking sites, bookshelves, and now is adding television to her multi-media supported business. She can be heard in numerous major radio markets including Boston, St. Louis, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Detroit, Lexington, Pittsburgh, Stamford- Norwalk and Jackson. Frankie’s shows are also available via Internet and podcasting. She has an impressive guest list that draws attention, including Suzanne Somers, Tony Horton, Harry Connick Jr., Deepak Chopra and Dr. Oz. Over the last two years she has been building her list of listeners utilizing social media. Frankie Boyer’s social media can be found on The Frankie Boyer Show Blog, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo Shine, Wellsphere and Empowher.com. She also has a new E-Zine focusing on healthy living and Gluten-Free lifestyle. In addition to her radio and social media presence, she is currently shooting a Gluten-Free Cooking show with Food2Day network. Her website is www.FrankieBoyer.com. Health E-Insights: How did you get into health talk radio? Ms. Boyer: Many years ago, a dear friend—the late Cosby Bonsall, noted children’s author at Harpers—out of the blue told me I should be a radio talk show host. I thought she was nuts. I had been in media most of my adult life and helped launch Boston’s hot rock station WFNX. Never did I think about being on air myself. But the universe had a different plan for me. Two weeks after Cosby had mentioned me being a talk show host, I was in a meeting with the late radio producer Tom Starr. My meeting had nothing to with radio. He approached me about doing a Sunday morning radio show. A week later I found myself on-the-air. And I realized that my life’s purpose was being filled. It was truly magical. It was within a few years I was doing a Monday through Friday drive time health show. I realized that sometimes our passions are not our own thoughts and may come from other sources. So I always encourage people to be open and listen to the signs and you too may find your voice and purpose in life. Health E-Insights: How long does it take you to prepare for your show? Ms. Boyer: Depending on the day and the guests it can take some time. I do research on all of my guests, and I have between four to nine guests per day so the time varies. This is all encompassing and takes many hours of the day. It really is 24/7. I keep my eyes open and stay on top of what is happening in the world all the time. I also work with my web mistress to make sure the information on my guests is available on my social media sites so my listeners have as many ways as possible to stay informed about staying healthy. Health E-Insights: Who’s the most interesting person you’ve interviewed on your show? Ms. Boyer: Hmm. With over a decade of radio that is a hard question to answer. I would have to say that I always loved debating and interviewing the late Dr. Atkins. I have also had the great fortune to interview the beautiful Suzanne Somers, Tony Horton, Harry Connick Jr., Deepak Chopra, Dr. Oz, Burton Goldberg, Michael Rozien, and one of my favorite authors, the late Stephen Cannell. Health E-Insights: What excites you most about what you do? Ms. Boyer: I think what really excites me is educating my listeners and knowing that I am making a difference in people’s lives. I get to do what I love every day and live radio excites me. It is so different every day and anything and everything can happen. Health E-Insights: When it comes to alternative health issues does anything irritate you? Ms. Boyer: Yes! The fact that we are not talking about holistic healthy living every day in America. My list of irritants could go on and on but one that infuriates me is that most people are not educated about the deleterious effects of the pharmaceuticals they take and the long-term effects these drugs have on their bodies. I worry about all the foods that we are eating that contain dyes that are carcinogenic, made from petroleum. You would never say to your child, ”Come here sweetheart let me pour some petroleum down your throat,” yet most mothers will feed their child cereal, macaroni and cheese and popsicles filled full of additives, food dyes and high fructose corn syrup. We consume these products year after year not knowing what these chemicals are doing to our bodies. This includes the use of our cell phones and plastics made with BPA. Another big story that’s making news today that we only understand a piece of is the harmful effects of gluten, sugar and processed foods we eat day in and day out, the lack of omega 3 balance in our diets and the role of healthy oils to help cut back on all the inflammation. My passion today is to educate people that healthy holistic living can be a choice; we can change the expression of our genes. We do not need to be locked into our genetics. We need to educate America that the one pill mentality is not the answer, and that the mind and the body are equal partners in our health. We have a very long way to educate America about what healthy eating and living is all about. Health E-Insights: What would you be doing if you weren’t in talk radio? Ms. Boyer: Gosh. I don’t know. I truly believe I was born to do this. I have no clue. My passion is doing these radio shows (FrankieBoyer.com and LifestyleTalkRadioNetwork.com). I would probably have done something with animals, although my degrees are in teaching. I have a very deep love for animals. Health E-Insights: Tell us a little about furball Chezzy. Ms. Boyer: There is nothing little about my fur ball. He is a golden doodle; if you visit my website there are many pictures of him. After my dog died two years ago he showed up in my life and we just had this instant connection that his owners can hardly believe. We really are soul mate friends. He stays with me when they travel. My late mother Betty Boyer used to say I would take a four-legged animal over a two-legged one any day of the week. Sheldon Baker wants to interview you.
